Full Description
The earthwork of a roughly circular mound circa 18m in diameter is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This possible post medieval livestock refuge mound was on Halstow Marshes. This mound was situated towards the southern end of the marshes near Northward Hill at TQ 7787 7672, it had been levelled by 2007. Refuge mounds provided an area of high ground for livestock to occupy in the event of a flood and numerous refuge mounds were built on the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1-2)
