Summary

The earthwork remains of a small oval mound, probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. This was mapped from RAF 1947 aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Full Description

The earthwork remains of a small oval mound measuring 8m x 10m seen at TQ 8135 783. This is probably an example of a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These mounds have been referred to and identified in contemporary writings (Spurrell, 1885). This was mapped from RAF 1947 aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (1-2)
