The earthwork remains of an oval mound thought to be a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound, many of which were constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary.

Full Description

The earthwork remains of an oval mound thought to be a 19th century or earlier stock refuge mound measuring c.16m x 13.5m and seen at TQ 6901 7400 on Shorne Marshes. Many such mounds were constructed on low-lying pasture within the marshlands of the Hoo Peninsula and the margins of the Thames Estuary. These mounds have been referred to and identified in contemporary writings (Spurrell, 1885). This was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
