Important geological sequence record TQ 66 NW 180 - Pleistocene geological sequence, Longfield Academy

Summary

A Pleistocene geological sequence was identified during a geoarchaeological evaluation carried out at Longfield Academy in 2009. A Pleistocene sequence up to 3m in depth was located via test pitting at the site. The deposit sequence comprised solifluction gravel, fluvial beds, and Brickearth deposits, and may relate to the last Glaciation. Whilst no artefacts or ecofacts were recovered during this investigation, the site may still have potential for localised artefact survival.

The Pleistocene sequence was overlain by a colluvial deposit interpreted (1) as potentially dating from the Bronze Age to Roman periods. (1)
