Full Description
The cropmark of a ditch can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1975. This ditch may be Roman in date and was possibly associated with another cropmark ditch to the south west (NMR 765241). It may also have had an association with the Roman enclosure to the south (NMR 1551414) whose northern side is roughly parallel to the ditch. The width of the ditch varies between 1m-2m and can be traced for approximately 95m. At TQ 6788 7171 the cropmark widens to circa 5.5m (but is in places wider) and continues on the same south west - north east alignment for circa 220m. This is too wide for a ditch but may represent a hollow way of uncertain date. This cropmark is situated to the north of Harts Hill and was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1)
