Monument record TQ 97 SE 30 - Early Medieval Settlement

Summary

Excavations revealed evidence for an Early Medieval (7th-9th century) Anglo-Saxon settlement. Post-holes, bronze dress pins, glass and large amounts of pottery were found. A Saxon silver coin was also discovered (737-758)

Full Description

Excavations in Minster village (TQ 9573) by Sheppey Archaeological Society have recovered material of 7th to 9th century date including 'seven...bronze dress pins, post-hole evidence for timber buildings... a 737-758 Saxon silver coin... samples of Anglo-Saxon glass ...and as much Anglo-Saxon "Ipswich ware" pottery as produced by all the excavations at Canterbury combined'.
