Building record TQ 65 NE 67 - Leybourne Mill

Summary

A mill at Leybourne is mentioned in the Domesday Survey. In the 18th century a water powered cornmill is documented at Leybourne.A two storey mill house faces onto Castle Way with part of a mill building, with 3 bays, adjoining the west side. The mill was originally at least 2 storeys high and the surviving part is the house with a catslide roof sloping down to a lowered wall on the western side. A pair of mid to late 19th century cast iron window frames exist in the eastern wall. This part of the building is in use as a garage. The mill pond is presumed to have been on land to the rear of the mill in the area now used as a garden. See also TQ 65 NE 68 the mill leat on Addington Brook
