Monument record TQ 77 SE 119 - Second World War pillbox, Cockham Reach, Hoo St. Werburgh

Summary

A World War II pillbox located to the east of lower Upnor on the edge of the medway and facing south. This type 24 pillbox was a narrow wall version with a brick skin. Thought to be the same as TQ 77 SE 1030 - a record created for a pillbox that probably never existed. The problem seemingly arose from an intially inaccurate grid reference; this was rectified when an accurate positioning was recorded during a 2004 coastal survey.
