Monument record TR 04 NW 43 - Medieval building foundation at Ball Lane, Kennington
Summary
Archaeological investigations at Ball Lane in advance of construction for a housing development revealed a pit or possible clay pit of a pond. This feature was found to contain 40 sherds of pottery dating from 1150-1200 AD in the fill. Another feature was found in the upper fill - this was of rectangular shape lined with a series of sandstone blocks and patches of gravel. At the time this was interpreted as the foundation of a simple building although no further information about such a structure was recorded.
