Roman cultivated horizon cut by pit containing C1 pottery and medieval pit backfilled with domestic rubbish dating to the C13. Located by evaluation trenching. Evidence for the wall and floor of an oasthouse was found, which had occupied the site until recent times. (1) Assuming that the contents of the Romano-British pit are not redeposited, the results may indicate that during the Early Romano-British period, domestic occupation probably took place within the vicinity of the trench and this would have been contemporary with the agricultural use of the surrounding land. The medieval deposits were located in the trench closest to the High St. suggesting that in the early medieval period the High Street had been established along its present line. (2)
