Full Description
Folkestone Harbour constructed by Folkestone Harbour Co in 1820. The Pent Stream was channelled into the basin to prevent silting but this proved inadequate and the extra expense bankrupted the Company by 1842. The railway arrived in Folkestone and a branch subsequently built to the harbour. The line crossed the harbour basin on a viaduct with a swing bridge section at the south end. (1)
