A lighthouse, with a white revolving light, is visible on the end of Folkestone's Outer Harbour southern pier on Epochs 1-4 (1877, 1899, 1908 and 1938) of historic 1:2500 Ordnance Survey mapping [1-4]. No evidence of the lighthouse is visible on MasterMap (2009) [5].
This monument is positioned opposite another lighthouse (MWX44001), located on the end of the East Pier. The lighthouses are situated on either side of the entrance to Folkestone Outer Harbour and provide guidance for vessels entering.
The position of the lighthouse was given a monument point from the Epoch 4 edition [4], during historic mapping enhancement as part of Phase 1 of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey.
