Full Description
Site of Upper Tovil Mill, paper mill est by Peter Musgrave in late C17, subsequently owned by Stephen Mantilowe. The mill was enlarged and developed through the C19 and taken over by Albert Reed in 1895. By 1900 the mill had spread across Tovil Hill Rd with a seperate building at TQ 7534 5450 constructed by Reed. This is the only surviving part of the mill complex and consists of two parallel ranges of concrete framed and corrugated tin clad sheds (prob part of orig extension of c1895-1900). They were subsequently extended to the rear by a pair of taller 16 bay ranges. The first 8 bays are of rivetted steel stancion frame, the latter of brick. All three phases have stell framed roofs that make a continuous space. 0s and subsequently cleared for housing. Mill pond situated SE of mill site. (1)
