Full Description
RCHME AP shows staple enclosure and 2 macula features, one consisting of possible pits.
A staple enclosure and two irregular macula features have been identified in fields just to the east of Seamark road near Monkton roundabout. It appears that one of the macula features contains evidence of pits. These features were visible in aerial photographs taken for the Royal Commission on the Historic Monuments of England as to record the cropmarks of Kent. (1)
An enclosure forming part of a settlement of Medieval date was visible as a cropmark in NMR 2639/3127 01-AUG-1985. Three sides of the rectilinear enclosure are visible, appearing to front onto Seamark Road. The previously recorded maculae (authority 1) are now recorded separately (MKE124915, MKE124916). This feature was mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (2)
