Summary

A number of cropmark features were identified in fields to the east of Plumstone Farm. A sub-circular feature of pits with a further pit in the centre was recorded next to a possible barrow and a short linear feature. Two single-ditched ring ditches were also located in close proximity to these features. The date of these features is uncertain and no further information about them could be found.

Full Description

RCHME AP shows sub-circular feature consisting of pits, with a pit in the centre, at TR 3042 6638. A poss. barrow with short linear feature adjacent at TR 3040 6640. Thanet cropmark plot shows 2 single-ditched, ring ditches, located at TR 3041 6635 and TR 3039 6640.(1-3)

These cropmarks have been reviewed and re-mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project (2024). The record for a supposed sub-circular feature formed of pits described above is a misinterpretation of the National Mapping Programme (NMP) stipple convention. This cropmark feature is now recorded in MKE124919 as a medieval/post-medieval extractive pit. The two 'single-ditched ring ditches' are now recorded separately in MKE125912 and MKE125913. The short linear ditch of uncertain date was visible as a cropmark in Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 14-APR-2015. It measure about 22.5m long. (4)
