Monument record TQ 87 NE 117 - Military observation tower, near Cockleshell Beach, Lees Marshes, Isle of Grain
Summary
A 20th century Military observation tower near Cockeshell Beach. Used by lookouts for shipping in range off Shoeburyness and to record fall of shot. Still in use for the Ministry of Defence. Assessment during a 2002 survey indicated the structure comprised reinforced concrete blocks on the seaward side, protecting an internal reinforced ordnance storage bunker.
