Summary

A 20th century Military observation tower near Cockeshell Beach. Used by lookouts for shipping in range off Shoeburyness and to record fall of shot. Still in use for the Ministry of Defence. Assessment during a 2002 survey indicated the structure comprised reinforced concrete blocks on the seaward side, protecting an internal reinforced ordnance storage bunker.

Full Description

Steel tower and observation platform for observers to act as lookouts for shipping in range off Shoeburyness and to record fall of shot. In use by MOD. (1). Photographs (2-6). Site identified during 2002 survey and structure now comprises reinforced concrete blocks on seaward side, protecting an internal reinforced ordnance storage bunker (7).
