Full Description
Trenching at the Post Office Sorting Office, Sandling Road Maidstone, identified an agricultural horizon containing Roman pottery, tile and brick. A trancated ditch aligned NW-SE cut through this layer. The site remained in agricultural use through the medieval period. Interpreted as originating with a field system associated with 'The Mount' Roman villa. (1)
