Summary

A number of pillboxes were constructed across the Western Heights in the 20th century to cover the approaches to the heights, these are generally inter-visible. This example is a type 23 pillbox comprising two cells; an open Anti Aircraft pit with a central concrete pillar for a light machine gun. It is located to the rear of St Martins Battery, reached via a long flight of steps from the covered way behind the battery. (location accurate to the nearest 1m based on available information)
