Area D was positioned to investigate a number of responses recorded during the scan that appeared to have archaeological potential.

Most of the scanned responses were identified near the drain that forms the eastern limit of the survey area. These have been produced by a curvilinear anomaly that has been interpreted as a palaeochannel.

A number of broad and diffuse anomalies have been recorded across the survey area that are similar to those detected in areas B and C and thought to be natural in origin.

A linear anomaly recorded in the western part of the survey area may be of archaeological interestr and indicate the course of an ancient ditch feature. However the likelihood that it is of natural origin should not be discounted.(1)
