Monument record TQ 76 NW 317 - Section of Roman wall found in the garden of Southgate, The Precincts, Rochester

Summary

Section of wall found during work on an extension for Southgate (TQ 76 NW 157). The mortar of the wall appeared to be comparable to that of the medieval period. However its alignment in relation to the known defensive wall of the 3rd century and its proximity to the Roman south gate mean it is probably part of the 3rd century Roman wall.
