Monument record TR 03 NW 19 - Linear field ditches, Little Hook Farm

Summary

A late Iron Age ditch and associated pottery was found during an archaeological evaluation in 1997 prior to Channel Tunnel Rail Link construction works. The excavation of 5 trenches was mainly aimed at the examination of a number of geophysical annomalies. Archaeological features consisted of elements of a series of linear field ditches of probable post-medieval date, and a ditch of late Iron Age date (100BC - AD 60-70). The Iron Age ditch contained several large unabraided pot sherds which suggests that there was an unlocated contemporary settlement nearby.
