In 1998 Museum of London Archaeology carried out an excavation ahead of CTRL works. A series of Late Iron Age to early Roman ditches were found, forming enclosures. Part of this system mirrored the form of the adjacent Middle Iron Age enclosed farmstead, suggesting that though the ditches of this enclosure had silted, they were still discernable, perhaps as banks, hollows or hedge lines. The various ditches in this area appear to form large enclosures, possibly for animals but also possibly for fields. A number of pits and post holes were also found, including two four post structures. A possible beamslot was found near these four post structures suggesting that the area was also used for domestic occupation. Pottery from these features dated from the Late Iron Age into the Roman period. (1-3)
