Full Description

Seventy machine-cut evaluation trenches were excavated to the south and west of Brisley Farm. These revealed a number of late Iron Age/Belgic ditches, gullies, pits and a short length of possible trackway spread across the evaluation area. Two undatable hearths and a possible cremation were also recorded. A small assemblage of abraded grog-tempered pottery was recovered along with a shard of Samian and one of Upchurch type. This suggests that the occupation ranges from the last century BC through to the early post-conquest period. These features are thought to relate to a field system associated with occupation/activity areas although the small scale nature of the evaluation makes clear understanding of the site difficult.(1).
