Full Description

Archaeology South-East were commissioned to undertake an archaeological evaluation in advance of the establishment of a cemetery on land at Church Road, new Romney. The evaluation comprised the mechanical excavation and recording of fifteen test trenches, together with geoarchaeological investigations. Some medieval remains were identified in the north-west corner of the site, comprising three small pits and a gulley. A buried land surface encountered at depth with in a geological test pit may have been associated with the early medieval course of the river Rother or Romney Harbour(1).
