Full Description

A series of ditches dating for the C11 to C14. Two containing C11 - C12 pottery could represent the remnants of an early field system established along the edge of the principle shingle ridge. Alternatively their position close to the Romney Road and the significant quanities of domestic refuse in their fills may indicate an association with early medieval settlement along the road line.

The other ditches form a broadly rectilinear field system that extends along the western lower-lying half of the site.

It is interesting to note the absence of sand and shell tempered wares considering their dominance at the nearby Brett's Lydd Quarry. (1-2)
