Full Description
The installation of new antenna equipment for Vodaphone Ltd required excavation into the chalkk hillside, and a representative from Canterbury Archaeological Trust was present to carry out an intermittent watching brief. This was thought neccessary due to the proximity of the site to a large Anglo-Saxon cemetery on Long Hill which has not been fully defined.
Only one feature was identified, a large pit (3.70m. NE-SW by 1.7m. NW-SE and over 1m. deep), but this is most likely to be of recent origin; representing where a tree has been grubbed out during previous twentieth century construction works in the area(1).
