Full Description
A watching brief was carried out in 1999 during construction work on Honeywood Road in Whitfield by Canterbury Archaeological Trust.
A single feature was revealed. It was located in a new pipe-trench cut on the south-eastern side of the old entrance into the Old Park Barracks complex. It consisted of a broad shallow pit filled with a brown clay with small fragments of calcined flint and occasional carbon specks. Although there were no dateable finds in the pit, a broadly prehistoric date would fit with the prehistoric struck flints also recovered from the site. The flints appear to be broadly of Neolithic-Bronze Age date. (1)
