Full Description
An evaluation was carried out in July 2000 to the rear of No.'s 7, 8 and 9 High Street, Eastry. Seven features were found, all believed to date from the medieval and post-medieval periods (1).
Due to significant archaeological remains found earlier a follow up excavation took place in August. A gully and pit tentatively dated to between c575-700 AD from pottery sherds was found at the rear of Nos 7- 9 High Street. The gully was traced for over 12 meters and was up to 0.82 m wide and 0.26 m deep with sloping sides and a dished base. Evidence of earlier and later activity has also been found in the area (TR 35 SW 199 and 201-2).(2)
