Monument record TR 34 SW 634 - Site of Possible Medieval Watchtower, Dover
Summary
The site of Archcliffe Fort is thought to have originated as a late 14th century watchtower surrounded by a bank and ditch, later replaced by an artillery bulwark during the reign of Henry VIII. This in turn was replaced by the present fort in the mid 17th century. No evidence for the watchtower or the bulwark has been found so far.
