Monument record TR 15 NE 412 - Romano-British "Ribbon Development", Canterbury
Summary
During evaluation work at the Police HQ in the Old Dover Road, to the north of the site pits, postholes and a hollow way with infilled wheel ruts were found. These dated to the late first/early second century AD. Above them was a later third/to fourth century metalled surface, possibly a yard fronting the Roman road. Together they are thought to suggest evidence for occupation, perhaps a ribbon development throught most of the Romano-British period. The earlier holow-way could have provided access for carts from the Roman road to areas of the brickearth pit (TR 15 NE 166).
