(TR 14705769) Probable Roman Temple Precinct excavated by the Canterbury Archaeological Trust in 1980-1. The remains of a small rectangular timber framed building with a narrow ambulatory and an inner cella (both with clay floors was perhaps a small shrine located on the CB/R5 site and was probably demolished in the third century, at a time when the porticoes also seem to have been partly dismantled and a final sequence of courtyards laid over them. If this buildig was a shrine when it may indicate that the enclosure could have contained not only a major classical temple but a number of smaller shrines. (1-4)

From the Register of Scheduled Monuments

Vacant land of Roman remains in Adelaide Place. This is thought to be the area of the Roman temple. Five archaeological investigations in the area prior to development have found a shrine and fountains but no temple. Area is now part developed, a rectangular area of former archaeological excavation being left under grass. Remainder of scheduled area is at present car park.
