Summary

Two excavations carried out in 1992 at 'Diocesan House,' 26 Broad St, Canterbury for deep new foundations for office block extension. The Romano-British inhumation burials (TR 15 NE 414) were covered by a dark earth layer of soil c. 0.6m deep. Within this soil was an assemblage of decorated pottery. Included in this assemblage were eight large body sherds from a boss-decorated jar and four from a vessel of sandy fabric. Both date to the late 5th-early 6th centuries.

Full Description

Two excavations carried out in 1992 at 'Diocesan House,' 26 Broad St, Canterbury for deep new foundations for office block extension. The Romano-British inhumation burials (TR 15 NE 414) were covered by a dark earth layer of soil c. 0.6m deep. Within this soil was an assemblage of decorated pottery. Included in this assemblage were eight large body sherds from a boss-decorated jar and four from a vessel of sandy fabric. Both date to the late 5th-early 6th centuries (1-3).
