Monument record TR 15 NW 643 - Possible Roman Wing-Wall, Worth Gate, Canterbury
Summary
Roman wall remains constructed of mortared flints and greensand fragments. The outer face of the walling was not visible as it was obscured by the soil within the service trenches. The apparent north-south wall extending into town filled the whole 1.70m width of the trench. The plan of this recently observed area along with previous works looks like possible wing walls that would retain the embankment behind the city wall, stopping it slumping into the road way.
