Full Description
A small rectangular pit was dug during works associated with the underpinning and re-facing of the retaining wall in front of the Unitarian Church, 3m from the west retaining wall measuring 1.3m square to a depth of 1.7m. Sealing the natural and two layers containing Prehistoric struck flints was a deliberate dump of brown clay with occasional chalk and flint lumps. This dump layer produced 50 sherds of mid- late 2nd century Roman pottery including samain ware and amphora fragments, together with a hone, animal bones occasional marine shells and several derived struck flints.
