Monument record TQ 83 SW 40 - Possible industrial site, Strawberry Wood
Summary
Surface depressions in a woodland area indicating probable industrial minerals extraction. Possible iron ore remains in the stream indicated by brown colour. Also evidence of stream management including a stone culvert at one point ensuring use of causeway across stream and good water flow. A well defined track with banks on either sides and respected by trees disappears at northern boundary of wood, although on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map (c.1858-1873) it appears to curve round to the east.
