Full Description
Excavation at Northdown Primary School recovered further evidence of a late bronze and- mid iron age settlement (TR37 SE 43). In addition a pit was found, although mostly destroyed by the trench, about 1.30m deep and 1.80 diameter. From the chalky fill an number of pottery sherds from the same vessel were found. The sherds came from a large cooking pot in sandy "Tyler Hill" fabric and probably dated to around 1325 -1375 AD. Whatever the reason for its original cutting the pit had served as a midden. (1)
