Full Description
Evidence of medieval activity was found across the site in the form of ditches, pits, flooring and metalling. Medieval occupation relates to the nearby Abbey (TQ 97 SE 1). The remains of razed walls, wall beams, pits and post holes, metalling and later robber trenches are evidence of structures with the main complex. Further evidence of structures have been found to the north and west by the Sheppey Archaeological Society (no further evidence) and to the south. Pottery found so far is fairly extensive for the 12th century, tailing of slightly in the 13th. Later medieval pottery (14th - 15th) is scarce so far rising slightly in the 16th and 17th centuries.(1)
