Watching brief on excavation of basement to increase headroom. A number of intercutting cess/rubbish pits and post holes were found covering the mid 9th to early 12th centuries AD. At least three of the nine pits were cess pits. Most of the features contained small amounts of pottery, animal bone, daub, iron slag, and oyster shell. The large number of features in such a small area suggests that the land here was either waste land or rear gardens to buildings fronting an early route way.
