During an evaluation on land south of Harps Avenue, one trench revealed a truncated subsoil along with a series of shallow, flat bottomed features. No pottery was recovered from these features, but small fragments of peg-tile were found in every fill. It is believed that the features represent a clay extraction quarry, probably for making bricks and/or tiles, in operation sometime between the 16th and 18th centuries (1).

The quarry was also identified by a later watching brief on the site, during the monitoring of the cutting of a new culvert, to the north of the road. The lower half of the easternmost corner contained deposits of broken pegtile and brick, burnt clay and charcoal. A shallow, frogged brick was also recovered [2].
