Full Description

Evidence of ditches and fence-lines suggest the beginnings of a more formal agricultural landscape in the area, from the edge of the former marshland and inland (i.e. TQ 87 SW 73), during the late bronze age. No clear evidence of a domestic settlement was found, but what features have been found suggest that any domestic occupation may have been seasonal/temporary related to pastorlism and saltworking.

Uninterrupted activity continued into the early Iron Age with further land divisions and evidence of “semi-industrial" activity. A probable round-house, suggested by a circular ring-gully, within an enclosure and associated features suggest that occupation in the area was on a more permanent basis close to salt works as briquetage fragments were found in a number of pits.
