Full Description

An extended watching brief on plots E1-2 of the Eurolink Business Park, Sittingbourne, from 2001-2002, produced evidence of brickearth quarrying in the area from c.1869 onwards. At some point in the early twentieth century the site had been levelled and partially occupied by a row of brick kilns. The brickearthing and levelling had truncated any earlier archaeology, leaving a number of undated features and some possible Roman features (TQ 96 SW 209).
Demolished in the later twentieth century, the position of the brick kilns were plotted prior to the present development work. The foundations were observed during the watching brief work [1].
