Full Description

An archaeological watching brief recorded 6 prehistoric features under East Hall Wood. The surrounding area had been heavily truncated and so little context could be given to the features. The features consisted of a hearth containing burnt flint fragments and several pits and postholes. The pits and postholes contained Deverel-Rimbury pottery dated to the middle bronze age and several residual mesolithic or early neolithic flints (see TQ 96 NW 221). One of the pits contained an Ardleigh-type 'bucket urn'. The nature of the features suggest evidence of domestic activity. [1].
