Full Description
A slight platform, the sole remnant of a bunker or shelter associated with the site of a twin searchlight emplacement to the north (TQ 87 NE 125). The emplacement was demolished after 1961 [1].
The earthwork remains of what is believed to be the shelter or bunker associated with and lying immediately to the south of the the twin WW1 searchlights (NMR Monument Number: 1542798). Both are situated on the coast, just above the beach immediately to the north-east of Grain Fort. The shelter appeared as a penannular earthen bank open to the south-west, measuring 15m x 11m. Both the shelter and searchlights have now been demolished.
The shelter and surrounding structures and sites were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (2)
