Full Description
Trial trenches excavated in the 1960s in an area to the south of the railway embankment and west of the A2 at Springhead, revealed parts of a Roman building. Little is known about eh use or form of the building, or its relationship with other known Roman features in the landscape. From what was revealed the building appears to have been constructed using flint and rectangular in form and around 10m long (though this is not confirmed). It may be associated with other flint and timber buildings which have been uncovered in the vicinity, and within the area encircled by the early Roman ditch. (1)
