Full Description
During evaluation trenching in early 1998 along part of the proposed route of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link close to Dale and Station Roads Southfleet, two ditches were found. From struck flint and pottery sherds they are thought to date to the mid-late bronze age. One contained a quantity of charcoal typical of hawthorn, apple or pear. A low level of struck flint was found across the excavation area, little of which was particularly diagnostic. The character of the bronze age occupation in this are is difficult to assess, but the data recovered does not suggest that domestic activity took place here, but that it is likely to have taken place nearby.
