Monument record TR 02 NE 67 - Medieval pits, a kiln and road at Dymchurch Road, New Romney

Summary

An excavation in 2003 located medieval pits, a kiln and a road-way at a site at Dymchurch Road, Dymchurch. Most activity dated to the 13th - 14th century though some features were from the 19th century. The kiln was particularly significant as it is the first direct evidence of medieval pottery production at New Romney. Low level industrial activity such as smithing, fishing and ship repair probably also occurred on site.
