Full Description
In 2005 and 2006 the Canterbury Archaeological Trust carried out a watching brief at the site of the former Kemp's Garage in Chillenden. Two prehistoric flints were recovered from the interface between the colluvium and topsoil. Two pits containing medieval pottery, tile and daub were found suggesting low-level activity.A number of post-medieval features were also discovered including a chalk and flint-lined well, two brick-lined cisterns and a brick-lined cess tank. A post-medieval yard surface was also found, believed to be contemporary with the existing farmhouse.(1)
