Full Description
In 2006 five evaluation trenches in advance of residential development uncovered evidence of prehistoric flint working in the immediate area. This was demonstrated by the recovery of a small group of secondary struck flint flakes from later cut features and a sizeable assemblage of struck flakes and a large flint tool from deposit in Evaluation Trench A. a series of pits, contained pottery which can be dated to Anglo-Saxon, Norman, medieval and post-medieval periods. Trench C contained an assembalde of mid-late Anglo-Saxon pottery as well as two fragments of rare clay moulds of this period used during the production of decorative metal working. Extensive evidence of Norman occupation occurs across evaluation trenches A, B, & C in the form of a series of pits, many intercutting, which largely produced pottery dated between 1050 and 1225 AD(1)
