Full Description
In 2004, 99 trial trenches were excavated to the south of Hawkinge Aerodrome as part of the 'Terlingham III' development. Pits, postholes, gullies and ditches were encountered in the eastern part of the site dating to the late Bronze Age/early Iron Age, late Iron Age/Romano-British and late Roman periods as well as limited evidence of Anglo-Saxon remains. A group of undated features was also recovered as well as a number of struck flints.
In addition, the remains of a demolished pillbox and memorial were found. These were the only remains associated with the former use of the site as an airfield. (1)
