[TQ 93624821] Chapel (NR) (remains of) (NAT) (1) The remains of the domestic chapel at Newlands Farm has walls of ragstone from the superficial strata suggesting an early medieval date. The north doorway (see illus card) has ornamental bands suggesting Early English style. This feature, together with the absence of herring bone walling and the piscina of pointed arch formalpoint to a date later than Norman. Mentioned in 1374-5. (2) A late Norman chapel now converted into a barn. It originally consisted of a chancel, a nave and a south aisle, but the aisle has disappeared. (3) Chapel as described by Auth 2. Still in use as a barn, and in good condition structurally. Modern roof. See GP AO/61/175/6. (4) Checked and correct. (5) 5272.
